Prime Minister Scott Morrison has paid tribute to the “indomitable Australian spirit” in a message to mark the New Year.
In a video, the PM thanked Australians for their sacrifices through a year – defined by the coronavirus, restrictions and border closures across the country.
“I have never felt more proud of my country than I am today,” Mr Morrison said.
“We have confronted the greatest challenge Australians have faced since the second world war and we have proved that once again, we are a nation of overcomers, we are a nation which prevails.”
He expressed his hope and confidence in Australians and their capacity to cope with whatever may confront the nation as it heads into 2021.
