Phoenix Officer Shoots Man Trying to Ram Several People With SUV

Phoenix, Arizona — On December 25, 2020, at about 1:07 a.m., Phoenix Police Officers responded to an aggravated assault / domestic violence call in the area of 51stAvenue and Osborn Road. Details on the call stated the suspect tried to run over the victim with his vehicle. The suspect, 25-year-old Samuel Vasquez, rammed a parked van and fled the scene in his vehicle prior to police arriving. There were people standing in the front yard of the house when officers arrived. As the officers were walking toward the residence, they saw the Vasquez’s vehicle drive over the curb toward the people in the front yard. One officer drew his service weapon and fired at the Vasquez, stopping the threat. Officers gave commands to Vasquez to exit the vehicle, which he complied with. Vasquez was taken into custody and officers rendered first aid until Phoenix Fire personnel arrived. Vasquez was transported to a local hospital where he is receiving treatment. There were no injuries to any officers or other community members. Vasquez was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was later released from the hospital and booked on multiple counts of aggravated assault.
