Over the last two decades, thousands of young Moroccans have come to Europe illegally. These underage emigrants often end up on their own — and often discover that the reality of their new life is much more difficult than they’d ever imagined.
The makers of this documentary got to know some of these young people quite well. They talk about their lives in a Moroccan port, and their perilous attempts to stow away on board a truck or ship. Their destination is Europe. Many of their parents live in abject poverty, and some actually encouraged their sons to leave.
But only a few of these young men made it to Europe legally — and those who managed to get there without documents had problems integrating into an unfamiliar society.
Our report follows them as they arrive in Spain, and move on to France, Germany, and Sweden — always driven by the hope that they’ll find a better future somewhere. But for many, the dream remains an illusion.
