The announcement of the birth of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child has given royal watchers a hint of what the future for royal babies might look like, says The Telegraph’s Camilla Tominey.
As well as the conventional Buckingham Palace communiqué announcing the birth of her child, Princess Eugenie posted an intimate picture on Instagram of the newborn’s hand. The post echoes the photos the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared when their first child, Archie, was a baby.
In the past, we could have expected any royal baby to have been carried in their parents’ arms to the doorsteps of the hospital they were born in, to be admired by a crowd of journalists, cameras and royal fans.
But according to Camilla Tominey, what we are now seeing is a dilution of the public image for the royals further down the pecking order for the throne.
This might be down to the way Prince Harry and Meghan led the way on keeping their child’s life private, argues Camilla Tominey.
