After months of delay, the UK parliament has finally been able to publish its report into allegations of Russian intereference in British public life.

It accuses the government and the intelligence services of failing to investigate the nature of the threat and how Russia may have interfered in UK affairs, including the 2016 Brexit referendum.

The findings by the Intelligence and Security Committee say ministers and officials were “playing catch-up”.

The report by the Commons Intelligence and Security Committee describes Russian influence in the UK as “the new normal” and said successive governments had welcomed rich oligarchs with open arms, without asking many questions about the source of their wealth.

However the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who’s visiting the UK, said China was a greater threat to stability than Russia. Mr Pompeo congratulated Boris Johnson on the recent decision by the UK to stop using Huawei technology in the new 5G mobile network.

Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg, Security Correspondent Gordon Corera, Moscow Correspondent Steve Rosenberg and Diplomatic Correspondent James Robbins.
