Shamans are spiritual men believed to be the bridges between the spirit world and ours. People of different faiths visit shamans in search of healing, protection from evil spirits, or straightforward advice. Through rituals, offerings, animal sacrifice and trance, shamans can reach the invisible world of spirits. Not everyone is fit for the job; however; shamans are called to take on this role by ancestral spirits.
An RTD film crew travels to the Republic of Buryatia in Siberia to witness an initiation rite for a would-be shaman. They visit a shamanic community, take part in a massive shamanic ritual on Olkhon Island and talk to a scientist about the science of spiritual shamanic journeys.
