Videos from parts of the U.S. West Coast this week showed eerie red and orange skies hanging over parts of Oregon and California, where devastating wildfires have destroyed hundreds of homes and driven thousands of people from their communities.
The ‘apocalyptic’ orange and red skies were an ominous effect of rapidly spreading wildfires that have consumed more than 2 million acres, or 20 times what burned in all of last year.
Some on social media have compared the wildfires in Oregon and Hollywood films set on Mars, as footage from the state reveals the weather-changing devastation wrought by the flames.
