Joe Biden has picked Kamala Harris to be his 2020 running mate – only the third time a major party has selected a woman for the running mate spot.
The 55-year-old Senator for California was the frontrunner for the Democratic vice-presidential candidacy.
As an early Democratic presidential contender herself, Ms Harris has national name recognition and her CV is impressive.
However, she might have to heal some rifts with Mr Biden after the pair exchanged heated words during the Democratic candidate debates.
