1. In recent years, China’s Fujian province has become a major supplier of seaweed and exclusive teas. It’s hard to believe as recently as the ’80s; it had barely any roads and farmers had to rely on ancient agricultural methods for growing their crops and lived in bitter poverty. These days, thanks to government support for small businesses, peasants and sea farmers alike have access to modern technology and up-to-date infrastructure.
2. Fujian is a coastal province in China, and its local government has stepped up efforts to lift local people out of poverty. And rural communities have not left behind. Only 17 years ago, picturesque fishing villages like Huiyu were very poor. Now, thanks to support from local banks, abalone farmers are making good money and expanding their businesses.
3. The poverty alleviation goals set by China’s government are being achieved through various methods, including relief programs under which underdeveloped towns get help from their well-to-do neighbours. For example, the partnership between the cities of Jinjian and Changting shows how creating business opportunities, providing expertise, and saving farmland by fighting soil erosion, don’t just alleviate poverty but also ensure long-lasting and fruitful partnerships.
4. In China’s Fujian Province, prosperity reaches even remote villages through respect for local heritage. Fans of the endangered silver pheasant wait for hours for the perfect photo-opportunity. Young girls belonging to the She people have sing-offs with their suitors, and a tour of a trainer factory in Jinjiang reveals a secret Chinese weapon.
