Cardinal George Pell has returned to Rome as the Vatican is subject to one of the worst financial scandals in decades.
Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu stepped down after being accused of directing Vatican funds and donations to three of his brothers.
Sky News host Andrew Bolt explained the move on Monday night saying, “while [Pell] might not want a new job, his church does need him”.
“Church donations have dried up, because of the virus, but also who’d want to donate now to crooks,” Mr Bolt said.
“It is a time for all good men in the Vatican to step up, and Pell, for all the attempts to destroy him in the media in Australia and in Melbourne in particular, Pell is one of the good guys.”
