A small town in western Manitoba is in mourning after a young couple was killed by Friday night’s tornado, which touched down near Virden, Man. Their vehicle became caught in the storm, and they were tossed from the car. Storm chasers say they’ve never seen anything like it. Joe Scarpelli spoke with members of the town, who had only positive things to say about the couple.

It was another day of protests in Beirut on Sunday as people continued to demand justice for those killed in Tuesday’s devastating explosions and change in government. The country was already struggling to deal with a deep economic crisis when a warehouse filled with more than 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded, killing more than 150 people and injuring thousands. As Mike Drolet explains, the explosion might be a tipping point for the country.

Suspense builds around former U.S. vice president and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s announcement on who will be his running mate. Biden has committed to picking a woman, and several women are still in contention. If elected, Biden would be the oldest sitting president in the country’s history, so his choice for his second-in-command is garnering a lot of attention. Jennifer Johnson reports.

Turning to the coronavirus pandemic, Ontario has now recorded fewer than 100 new cases of COVID-19 for seven straight days, but in Quebec, health officials are warning the province is on the cusp of a second wave. As the province prepares for the potential influx of new cases, plans are also moving forward to get students back to school. As Gloria Henriquez reports, some parents are now threatening legal action against the government.
