Police in France believe a 16-year-old boy from Sudan, whose body was found on a beach near Calais, drowned while trying to cross the Channel to reach the UK.
So far this year nearly 5,000 migrants have made the crossing, with dozens attempting to make the dangerous journey in flimsy vessels in one day.
The discovery of the dead boy highlights the challenge faced by the governments of both Britain and France.
