Scuffles erupted between police and protesters demanding the release from prison of former English Defence League (EDL) leader Tommy Robinson in London on Saturday.

Footage shows scuffles erupting after Robinson supporters try to go over a police line.

A counter-protest led by activist group ‘North London Antifa’ also took place on Saturday and also saw scuffles between protesters and police.

Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was found guilty last week of interfering with the trial of a sexual grooming gang at Leeds Crown Court in May 2018. The Old Bailey ruled that his Facebook Live video of defendants had breached reporting restrictions and jeopardised the trial.

He was originally jailed for 13 months on the day of the Facebook broadcast, but was released two months into his sentence after winning his appeal. The case was then referred to the Attorney General Geoffrey Cox who opted to bring fresh proceedings against him, which resulted in Robinson’s conviction for a further nine months.
