A news crew in Ecuador found themselves in the middle of an unexpected story when they were held up by a man with a gun, live on air.

Sports reporter Diego Ordinola was doing a lunchtime broadcast outside a football stadium when a masked assailant approached him, pointed his gun at him and demanded he hand over his phone.

Ordinola tried to reason with the man, who then turned his gun on the camera operator. The robbery was, of course, captured on camera, as was the man’s speedy escape on foot.

Amazingly, the crew then attempted to run after the man and filmed his getaway on the back of his accomplice’s motorbike. The footage was shared on Twitter and has already been viewed over 650,000 times. Police have promised to find the robber, and their job will presumably be easier given they already have video evidence of the crime.

This just leaves us with one question – of all the people to hold up, why choose someone with a live TV camera pointed at you? Maybe the robber just fancied 15 minutes of fame?
