The Japanese tuna industry is taking an outsize hit from the coronavirus pandemic, which has put intense pressure on wholesalers at Tokyo’s sprawling Toyosu Fish Market. Demand for fresh fish, especially the so-called king of sushi – bluefin tuna, has declined after the coronavirus crisis decimated orders normally seen for large events such as shareholder meetings and wedding banquets. With many restaurants deserted and big events placed on hold, some people in the industry are trying to sell tuna online to try and save their businesses.
