Police broke up barricades and arrested a number of activists in Dannenroeder Forest, north of Frankfurt, on Friday. It was part of an operation, already in its ninth day, to remove eco-activists protesting against a motorway construction project.
Police said they have cleared three out of 11 protest camps in the area where the proposed A49 highway is set to be built.
The construction project caused controversy after it was approved by the state government in Hesse where Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats rule in coalition with the Green Party.
