Thousands of protesters vented anger across Poland over a top court ruling that declared abortions of fetuses with congenital defects unconstitutional, toughening one of Europe’s strictest abortion laws even further.
The protesters who gathered in many cities defied a COVID-19 related ban on gatherings that was imposed nationwide.
It means that a pregnancy that endangers a woman’s health or life, or that has resulted from rape or other illegal acts are now the only legal grounds for obtaining an abortion.
