Former Pentagon adviser Jason Israel says it is unprecedented the most senior members of the military penned a letter reminding troops the Capitol attack was an attack on the Constitution.

On January 6 pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to block lawmakers certifying Joe Biden’s election victory.

“This past week the service chiefs, so this is the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and the vice chairman along with the six service chiefs – the most senior members of the US military actually wrote a letter together condemning the violence,” Mr Israel told Sky News.

“And stating what happened, any violation of the constitution is ‘not only against our traditions, values and oath – it is against the law.’

“At the end of the document it stated that on January 20 Joe Biden will be the commander in chief.

“It’s just a good symbol of how things are going.”
