Cricket Australia will drop any reference to Australia Day for three Big Bash League matches scheduled for January 26.

Working in consultation with indigenous elders to make this decision, they say the move is about helping all Australians to feel comfortable taking part in the three games held on January 26, including indigenous Australians.

Cricket Australia said the rebranding exercise was a bold move, made to ensure the games are culturally safe.

The company has reached out to the six clubs which will be involved in the matches and recommended they remove the words ‘Australia Day’ from any club branding.
