Hong Kong was handed back to China in 1997 under a promise of autonomy for 50 years. That year, 59,250 babies were born in the city. Now at 23, five people of Hong Kong’s handover generation embark on individual journeys to pursue dreams, love and careers. In a period of turbulence, each through their own way, they strive to build a better future for themselves and the city they call home.

Set amidst key political events occurring 23 years after the handover, in 2020, this documentary is an intimate and revealing portrait of Hong Kong’s youth as they grapple with change sweeping across their city, and their lives.

This 52-minute extended cut includes new scenes that did not make it to the TV version because of runtime requirements. They reveal added dimensions about these Hong Kongers and further celebrate the quirks and complexities of their individual stories.
