US Democrats pave way for Biden relief plan without Republicans

Democrats in the US are asserting their control in Congress to set the agenda and the tone in Washington. They now control the Senate, and used their majority for the first time in the early hours of Friday morning to push ahead with President Biden’s plan for a 1.9 trillion dollar coronavirus pandemic relief bill.
With Vice-President Harris’s tiebreaking vote, the budget measure that was approved also means Democrats will not need any Republican backing to pass the final package – as long as all Democrat Senators back the bill, with the details still to be worked out.
