U.S. Senate prepares for Trump’s 2nd impeachment trial

Published on February 8, 2021 by

The U.S. Senate is preparing for the second impeachment trial of former president Donald Trump, which begins on Tuesday.

Trump is the only president to have ever been impeached twice and faces a charge of inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Senators are unlikely to convict Trump as it’s expected not enough Republicans will join Democrats to find the former president guilty of the impeachment charge.

The trial also comes as both parties are hoping for a speedy process so they can return to focus on passing relief for Americans still struggling amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Jennifer Johnson reports.
