A young girl has been one of the seven confirmed deaths after a strong earthquake hit central Croatia.

The 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck hardest in the Croatian town of Petrinja, 12 kilometres south of the country’s capital city.

The small town was actually hit by two earthquakes, a smaller one, followed by the secondary, larger shock.

Dramatic scenes emerged as Petrinja Mayor Darinko Dumbovic was caught giving a press conference right when the second earthquake hit.

Dozens of people have reportedly been injured.
