People should take COVID vaccine if offered, to protect against the UK variant

Prof Jonathan Van-Tam has said that evidence shows the South Africa COVID-19 variant is unlikely to ‘take off’ in the UK, but called on people to get vaccinated if offered in any case.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer called on people to still take all endeavours to secure a vaccine if offered one and not hold out for different ones, as the dominant UK ‘Kent’ variant can still be protected against through vaccination.
