Mark Zuckerberg reaches out to Josh Frydenberg over Australia’s new media codes

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has reached out to Treasurer Josh Frydenberg over his concerns about Australia’s proposed new media codes.

The federal government has stood firm on its proposed media bargaining code, despite attempts by tech giant bosses to scuttle the reforms which would see them pay local publishers for content.

“Mark Zuckerberg didn’t convince me to back down, if that’s what you’re asking,” Mr Frydenberg said on Sunday.

Mr Zuckerberg “reached out to talk about the code and the impact on Facebook” in what the Treasurer called “a very constructive discussion.”

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has also spoken with Microsoft Corp.’s CEO Satya Nadella about the proposed changes.
