Drones to speed up Covid-19 testing make trial delivery flights for UK National Health Service

Published on November 5, 2020 by

Britain’s National Health Services is doing trial flights with drones in hopes of improving the efficiency of transporting samples from patients who need to be tested for Covid-19 infections. The drones developed by tech company Apian help minimise human contact with potentially infectious material as they avoid busy traffic that normally adds 40 minutes to three hours of transport time for testing done in regions near London. The automated and almost emission-free unmanned aircraft have a range of about 97km (60 miles) and can carry as many as 80 patient swabs per trip.
