Cult Leaders Created Nicknames Based on ‘The Sound of Music’

One of the most notorious cult leaders in American history, Marshall Applewhite, was known to his followers as “Do.” Now, never before seen footage shows Bonnie Nettles, who went by “Ti” and recruited Applewhite into the leadership ranks. All these years later, we are learning that the cult leaders called themselves “Do” and “Ti” because they were huge fans of the film “The Sound of Music.” Inside Edition spoke with Clay Tweel, director of the docuseries, “Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults.”
