Although Barbados has been independent from British rule for decades, the island nation is now seeking to shed all of its colonial ties to the monarchy, by removing Queen Elizabeth as its head of state.
The country has had two constitutional reviews and only needed a two-third majority in parliament to remove the Queen.
The official move will happen next November, in time for the country’s 55th year since independence. Crystal Goomansingh reports.
